Children & Families Support Services
“Thank you for all the support you gave us. I enjoyed playing in the garden too”
At SAHWR, we understand how traumatic experiencing and witnessing Domestic Abuse can be and we will ensure they are provided with a safe environment to talk, play and be supported. We offer a range of activities to improve children and young people’s well-being. The services we provide are:
Needs and risk assessments based on their age.
Play Sessions.
Education Support.
Provision of activities (in refuge and in the community).
Parenting support.
Advocacy for children, liaising with schools, GPs, children services, children centres etc.
The aim of Children’s Support services in refuges is not only to provide immediate safety but also to help children recover, regain their confidence and begin to build a sense of normality in a safe and nurturing environment.
Our Children Support workers also support children as they move on from safe accommodation through resettlement support. We aim to support them and their family to integrate into their new community, ensuring the sustainment of the safe supportive relationships made between the child and the support worker to ensure a smooth transition to finalise their support.
Our Children and Families Support Workers are based in our safe accommodation (refuge) and provide support to all children in refuge. We recognise the impact of Domestic Abuse on the child and will work with the parent and the child to reduce the impact of the trauma suffered and building their resilience.
